Phoenelai

Phoenelai's music is build very silently with a special sense for finding laid-back squeezing sounds while applying unique effect chains. If you listen carefully you will sense that enitre positive mood in his abstract sounds music. His wife doesn't understand the music he makes, but that is nothing wrong. The name Phoenelai comes from a random word generator and means nothing.

Phoenelai had been in the Industial / Techno scene where he stayed a lot with friends. They were buying so much techno it almost became impossible to keep up. He was exposed to the chill out rooms and started buying allot of ambient records as well. He started producing with his best buds “King Slick Shit” (Dave) and “Sig_gen” (Mike) and they formed a project called O.W.S.U. (off world slave units) which later became (shorter) O.W.A. (off world audio).

"We usually we just hooked up midi gear and recorded live, our friends said we had an 'Air Liquide' influence who we really, really admired! Once I moved back to Houston in 1999, I was no longer with O.W.A. and started working on my solo recordings. I used a random word generator program and came up with the moniker “Phoenelai”. I just liked the way it was spelled out, although it doesn’t mean anything."

Phonoelai first release was with the CDR label Retinascan.de, there he released a single and a full length CD. After that I started getting more involved with net artist and labels and discovered great sites like octagone.net and 2063music.de.

"Oddly enough lately I’ve been reverted back to listening to Industrial and drone music. I produce ambient drones with a touch of post-industrial. I recently moved to the smoggy industrial city of Pasadena, TX (cough!). I feel like Jack Nance in Eraserhead!"
